A Historic Venue in the Lehigh Valley with Coopersburg Roots

Coopersburg Exchange is a Lehigh Valley historic event venue built on local legacy and renewed for the way people gather today. Inside these walls, the building’s story is evident in its structure, materials, and craftsmanship for all our guests to enjoy. It’s history you can see, feel, and experience, paired with modern features that make gathering for major events comfortable.

History is an integral part of our foundation, and it guides the way we host. Constructed in the 1890s, the building that is now Coopersburg Exchange has supported our community for over 130 years. Today, we continue that story with celebrations that bring your loved ones right to the heart of its legacy.

More About Coopersburg Exchange

Our historic event venue reflects more than a single chapter. This building has supported local work, creativity, and community for generations, and today it’s been restored and reimagined as a place for weddings, celebrations, and corporate gatherings.

Our restoration approach is simple: protect what made the building distinctive, then bring it forward with thoughtful updates.

  • Original structure and scale: Preserved, exposed, hand-carved trusses & foundational elements keep the building’s industrial identity present.
  • Restored surfaces with real history: Original brick and maple floors add warmth, texture, and authenticity to every gathering.
  • Lighting as architecture: More than 350 hanging lights bring depth to the room while highlighting its height and detail.
  • A bar with a story: The 90-year-old mahogany main bar, restored from Tuggie’s, features a custom onyx top with lighting that adds a warm glow and a natural gathering point at the heart of the venue.
  • Flexible spaces for gatherings: The main venue, second-floor mezzanine with breakout bays, and auditorium support everything from ceremonies to presentations and live music.
  • Modern essentials included: Wi-Fi and A/V support help events run smoothly, with setup and cleanup handled by the venue team.

The Building’s Story: A Complete Timeline

Our passionate team has thoroughly researched our building’s history using resources such as the Lehigh County Historic Society, local tax records, property deeds, and more. Learn more about our story and what makes Coopersburg Exchange such a unique event venue.

1890 - 1930s

The Silk Mill Foundations

Coopersburg Exchange began as a thriving silk mill, where silkworms were raised and silk was spun during America’s early manufacturing era. The original 500-pound steel safe, now displayed in our foyer, remains a powerful symbol of strength, protection, and trust. The craftsmanship and resilience of that era continue to define the character of the space today.

1930 - 1950

Industrial Reuse Phase

As the regional silk industry declined during the Great Depression, the building entered a new chapter of resilience and adaptation. Rather than sitting idle, the former mill was repurposed for diversified industrial use, supporting light manufacturing, small-scale fabrication, and storage operations that kept the local economy moving. During the World War II era, facilities like this played a quiet but vital role in sustaining regional production networks. This period reflects the building’s strength, flexibility, and enduring contribution to Coopersburg’s working heritage.

1950s - 1970s

The Sweet Innovation Era

In 1955, the building became part of the story behind Affy Tapple, as one of the company’s earliest and most significant franchise expansions took place in Coopersburg. Known for creating “The Original Caramel Apple,” the brand transformed a simple, clever marketing idea into a nationally recognized tradition. From family gatherings to school fundraisers and seasonal celebrations, this chapter connected the property to generations of shared memories. Innovation and community spirit truly took root here.

1970s - 2019

A Legacy of Craft

For decades, the building housed R T Street Rods Speed Shop, a respected name in automotive restoration founded in 1971. Engines were rebuilt, classic cars were revived, and a culture of precision craftsmanship flourished, adding another layer of hands-on excellence to the building’s story.

2018 - 2020s

Renewed for the Way We Gather

In 2018, Elizabeth M. Snyder, Owner & CEO of Main Street Financial Partners purchased the building, reimagined the space with a vision to preserve its legacy while transforming it into an elegant gathering place. Renovated through the challenges of 2020, Coopersburg Exchange now stands as a refined event venue… rooted in history, elevated for modern celebrations.

2025 - Present

Historic Restoration is Complete

With a newly-finished 15,000 square foot space designed to host events and professional space. Coopersburg Exchange officially opens for business.

Today, Coopersburg Exchange enters its newest chapter as a venue centered on gathering, hospitality, and community connection.

Over 100 Years Later, A Unique Event Venue is Born

The goal at Coopersburg Exchange is not to rewrite history, but to extend it. We keep the building’s legacy at the center of what we offer while creating a place people can use, enjoy, and return to for years to come.

  • Stewardship of legacy: We preserve original details and share the building’s story with care, so the past remains present in today’s experience.
  • Hospitality first, always: We’re proud to bring new life into this space as it becomes part of your family’s meaningful moments, from first dances to milestone toasts. We are honored that you would like to be part of our history, just as we become a part of yours.
  • New chapters ahead: We’re building toward more ways to gather, including additional versatile spaces, a specialty in-house spirit brand, handcrafted cocktails, and community events that keep the calendar worth checking.

Must-Sees: Details to Appreciate

Some of the most memorable parts of Coopersburg Exchange are the things you notice up close. We’ve prioritized preservation of original structural elements and sourced historic details that fit the building’s character, connecting the current space to its larger story.

  • Waldorf Astoria sconces and lights: Over 200 years old, these carefully placed pieces add character and a distinctive glow to the auditorium experience.
  • Philadelphia Academy of Music seats: Beautifully preserved, nearly century-old auditorium seating brings a timeless sense of legacy to every performance and presentation.
  • Steinway Model O (circa 1905): A restored Living Room Grand Piano that reflects the building’s respect for craft, artistry, and enduring quality.
